It appears the New York Jets are content with the idea that they won’t be able to compete in 2013.
The Jets were actively shopping Darrelle Revis at the NFL Scouting Combine, according to the New York Daily News. New general manager John Idzik spoke to multiple teams in Indianapolis about a deal involving the star cornerback.
Revis missed most of 2012 with a torn ACL. He wants a new contract heading into the 2013 season, but since the Jets are already strapped for cap space, getting that deal from New York is unlikely.
Revis is entering the final year of his four-year, $46 million contract. New York can’t franchise Revis in 2014 as part of the deal, so if they can’t get a trade done, the Jets could lose the corner without getting any compensation.
If the Jets trade Revis, they would take on a $12 million dollar cap hit and a loss of $3 million in salary cap room, according to OverTheCap.com. New York is currently $10 million under the proposed $123 million 2013 salary cap.
