Ryan MallettIt appears that Ryan Mallett is going nowhere — for now.

The Patriots’ third-year quarterback has been a rumored trade chip ever since he was drafted in the third round out of Arkansas in April 2011. When Mike Lombardi was hired by the Cleveland Browns, the AFC North squad became a likely landing spot for Mallett.

The Browns are not expected to trade for Mallett, though, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Cleveland’s current starter is second-year quarterback Brandon Weeden. The 29 year old was drafted out of Oklahoma State with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

Cabot lists Alex Smith, Matt Flynn, Michael Vick, Brian Hoyer and Chase Daniels as possible options for the Browns. The Browns also have Colt McCoy, Thad Lewis and Josh Johnson on their roster at quarterback. The Browns experienced an overhaul at the top this offseason. They have a new CEO, head coach, vice president of football operations and offensive coordinator in Joe Banner, Rob Chudzinski, Lombardi and Norv Turner respectively.
