Patriots quarterback Tom Brady isn’t going anywhere.
Sports Illustrated’s Peter King reports the future Hall of Famer has signed a three-year contract extension with the Patriots, that will almost certainly keep him in Foxboro for the rest of his career. The new contract ensures that Brady will remain with New England through the 2017 season. Brady will be 40 years old when this contract is finished.
Surprisingly, the deal is reportedly only worth $27 million. That figure reportedly comes with a $3 million signing bonus. According to the report, Brady will make $7  million in 2015, $8 million in 2016 and $9 million in the final season of the deal, 2017.
It’s obviously a very team-friendly deal that falls below the averages of marquee quarterbacks in the league. It will save the Patriots roughly $15 million against the cap, which obviously opens up the opportunity for the club to take that money and invest it elsewhere knowing their most important position is locked up.
Brady, who will be 36 when the 2013 season begins, is coming off a season in which he threw for 4,827 yards and 34 touchdowns with just eight interceptions. The three-time Super Bowl winner is also a two-time NFL MVP.
