The contract extension Tom Brady agreed to Monday will have no shortage of repercussions for the Patriots.
New England now has more cap space as free agency approaches, and the team can also give Wes Welker a multiyear deal.
But anyone looking to hear Brady’s thoughts on why he reworked his contract or what it means for his teammates is out of luck. Brady declined a request from Dennis and Callahan to talk Wednesday morning, although he did send in an email saying why.
“I don’t want to talk about this on the radio or anywhere else, for that matter,” he wrote, according to WEEI.com. “Athletes are always talking about money at a time when everyone else is struggling so badly to make it. We all make way more than our fair share. And I just think it reflects poorly on myself and my teammates. I really do just want to win, and that has and will continue to be the reason that motivates me and is the biggest factor in my decision-making process.”
Brady’s extension is for three years and an additional $27 million, with much of it in guaranteed money. The restructuring gives the Patriots more cap space this year and next.
