I know what you’re thinking — trade of the century, right? Not quite.
Philadelphia acquired Andrew Bynum from the Lakers in a four-team trade back in August and the big man was expected to make the 76ers instant contenders in a weak Eastern Conference.
On Tuesday, the Sixers announced Bynum will undergo arthroscopic surgery on both knees, thus ending his entire season without having appeared in a single game.
“After many months of rehabilitation and consulting with numerous doctors, Andrew and the doctors treating him determined that this is the best course of action at this point,” 76ers general manager Tony DiLeo said in a statement. “We will continue to monitor and evaluate his status moving forward.”
The 25-year-old former lottery pick is a restricted free-agent after this season and may very well never play a single game in a Philly uniform.
