It seems college football fans have been spared the typically cumbersome title that comes with having a corporate sponsor (Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl, anyone?).  When the 2014 college football playoffs roll around, the tournament’s title will not include a sponsor.

ESPN is reporting the conference commissioners and college administrators who oversee college football’s new championship format are expected to unveil the tournament’s name and logo at their meeting next month.

“It won’t be ‘The Vizio Championship Tournament,'” executive director Bill Hancock said. “The Final Four doesn’t have one. The Masters doesn’t. The Super Bowl. That’s the kind of event we have.”

Trying to convey the history and significance of the game in a few short words has proved difficult, according to Hancock.

“It’s like writing short,” he said. “I can write a good long column in 10 minutes. A good short column takes three hours.”

However, the bowls hosting the semifinal games will continue to have corporate sponsors.
