There may not be an openly gay player in Major League Baseball, but according to some players surveyed, they do exist.
Five percent of MLBers admitted knowing a gay player in an ESPN the Magazine poll set to be published this week. As a part of the magazine’s MLB season preview issue, 110 anonymous players were asked a variety of questions, from the likes of who should be the World Series favorite (the Blue Jays) to the more politically volatile ones.
One National Leaguer answered that he did know a gay player, but clarified “that’s as far as I want to go, even if this is anonymous,”
Another potentially tricky question involved gun ownership, where 46 percent of players indicated that they do own firearms, averaging around four guns each.
“Let me ask you something,” a player responded, “if you were rich and famous and your salary was in the newspaper every week, would you worry about your wife and kids? That’s why I have guns.”
Additionally, players interviewed stated that 10 percent of their peers were taking PEDs.
The issue will hit newsstands Friday, March, 22.
