laurentHarvard needed a win against Cornell and a Princeton loss on Saturday night to clinch their third straight Ivy League title, and the Crimson got just that.

Harvard defeated the Big Red 65-56 but had to anxiously wait for the Princeton-Brown game to finish up to see if they would be sharing their conference championship or if they would win it outright. After about a half hour filled with anticipation, the Crimson received the good news that will also send them to the NCAA tournament for the second straight year and only the second time since 1946.

Most conferences hold tournaments in early March to crown champions, but the Ivy League is the only conference whose bid goes to the team with the best regular season record.

The Crimson lost to Vanderbilt 79-70 in last season’s NCAA tournament.
