A frightening thing happened earlier this week in the Nationalliga B playoff game.

During the Swiss League contest, 33-year-old defenseman Ronny Keller took an awkward hit into the boards from Langenthal player Stefan Schnyder.

Keller went head first into the corner after the two skated in and engaged in some contact just before the puck. The hit looked clean, as Keller appears to be the one who initiated contact. The chief physician confirmed that Keller is paralyzed, according to tagesanzeiger.ch.

“Following the serious injury of the fourth thoracic vertebra, Ronny Keller will be a permanent paraplegic. There is neither head nor brain injuries.”
