Dwight Howard has been criticized for being a coach killer, a crybaby and a clown. But his latest comments have one former teammate calling him something else: less than a man.
Jameer Nelson finally had his fill of Howard’s choice words to the media, wherein Howard has asked for trades, criticized teammates and just jabbered beyond any good reason many times. This week, he took a swipe at his former team in Orlando, saying the squad “was a team full of people who nobody wanted, and I was the leader, and I led that team with a smile on my face.”
Nelson, one of the better players on that team — which still found ways to win despite its collective deficiencies (including a 2009 run to the NBA Finals), has had enough of Howard’s thoughts.
“At some point, when are you going to, as a man, when are you going to take ownership and stay out of the media in a professional manner?” Nelson said, according to the Orlando Sentinel. “I would be less of a man to comment on certain things that people comment on about me and my teammates. We had a great run as a group, as core guys, and he was part of it.”
Howard had previously said he would like to play with an elite NBA point guard — while he and Nelson were still on the same team.
