In 2012 the Red Sox ranked 27th in Major League Baseball in team ERA. If the team expects to contend in 2013, that, quite frankly, just isn’t going to cut it.
However, with former pitching coach John Farrell now sitting in the manager’s seat and Juan Nieves managing the staff, expectations are high for in-house improvement from the Boston arms. Thus far, the starting five have checked all the requisite spring boxes — even putting up some impressive results in Grapefruit League play — while the bullpen arms are showing plenty of reason for optimism.
