The Louisville men’s basketball team ended Sunday night with a win over Duke in the Elite Eight, but with heavy hearts.

Guard Kevin Ware suffered a gruesome broken leg during the game, and was carried out on a stretcher and immediately taken to the hospital. Ware’s night ended on a somewhat positive note, though, as Yahoo’s Pat Forde reports that Ware underwent a successful surgery and will remain in Indianapolis to recover until at least Tuesday.

Even amid one of the more horrific sports injuries we have seen, Ware called his teammates over and told them, “Just win the game. I’m OK. Just win the game.”

And win they did, with an 85-63 triumph over the Blue Devils to advance to the Final Four. The Louisville women’s team also went on to upset Baylor on Sunday night in the women’s tournament. Between those wins and knowing that Ware is on the road to recovery, Cardinal nation can rest a little easier.
