When you gotta go, you gotta go, so it makes sense to BYOP — bring your own potty.
Experienced tailgaters at the Brewers’ Miller Park have been known to bring their own portable commode with them to the parking lot. As of this season, though, the Brewers will no longer allow that practice.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that Waste Management, the company that has the sanitation contract with the Brewers, has a monopoly on the outdoor potty market at Miller Park.
There are close to 100 bathroom locations available to fans in the parking lots around Miller Park. There are also bathroom facilities at the Klement’s Sausage Haus and at Helfaer Field. But when large crowds gather at Brewers games, bathroom lines undoubtedly follow.
The additional wait time for the rest room has motivated some fans to take matters into their own hands, hiring outside vendors to bring personal portable bathrooms in. Apparently, that act violates the agreement Waste Management has with the Brewers.
“If you want your own, you can’t work through a different vendor,” Brewers spokesman Tyler Barnes told the Journal Sentinel.
The Brewers do allow large, organized groups of fans to rent portable bathrooms through Waste Management. That option comes with an added bonus — clean up.
The company is also on hand to clean up the portable bathrooms. Fans who bring their own portable bathroom may not be as diligent in that regard.
Opening day for the Brewers is Monday against the Colorado Rockies. The parking lots will open at 10 a.m.
Fans are encouraged to attend and celebrate their team, but Barnes urges them to leave the potties at home.
