Pamela Smith has dropped her paternity suit against the former Bulls great, according to Reuters. Smith took it upon herself to sue Jordan in February, claiming he was the father of her 16-year-old son, also known as Taj. Smith was seeking child support in the suit and was demanding Jordan take a DNA test.
Smith had previously acknowledged that her now ex-husband is the father of the child, according to Jordan’s lawyers. His Airness has denied he is the father, and has counter-sued Smith for making false claims.
The only hitch is that the case has not be fully settled, apparently. Because Smith voluntarily dismissed the case “without prejudice,” she can re-file it again at a later time if she wants to, according to her lawyer, Randy Kessler.
“She began this case without an attorney and did her best to file what she believed to be a legally appropriate case,” Kessler said. “She then hired our firm just before the first court appearance. Ms. Smith has relied on our advice and determined that dismissal at this time, without prejudice, is in her son’s best interests.”
Jordan’s lawyers have not commented on the new development in the case.
