The Buccaneers are looking to move troubled cornerback Eric Wright, but it may be easier to fill out a perfect NCAA Tournament bracket than it will be for Tampa Bay to find a trade partner.
That’s because Wright is owed $7.75 million in 2013, and none of that contract is guaranteed because Wright was suspended four games for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy in 2012. Wright would have to agree to a pay cut to be traded since no cornerback is making that much money in this market. That non-guaranteed money also means Wright will almost certainly be cut if the Bucs can’t find a deal.
Tampa Bay signed Wright to a five-year, $38 million contract in March 2012. He was arrested for a felony DUI in June 2012, but he was never formally charged.
Wright was drafted No. 53 overall in 2007 out of UNLV. He played four seasons with the Browns and one season with the Lions before signing with Tampa Bay.
