Jadeveon ClowneyJadeveon Clowney is a man among boys.

Though the South Carolina defensive end is already a virtual lock for the No. 1 pick in next year’s draft, he padded his resume a little more on Tuesday, running what ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi reported to be a 4.5-second 40-yard dash at the one of the Gamecocks’ winter workouts.

The time was unofficial, of course, and its accuracy can be questioned, but anything close to a 4.5 for a 6-foot-6, 270-pound player is astounding. Only one non-skill player (Missouri linebacker Zaviar Gooden) clocked a better time at last week’s NFL combine. The 6-foot-1, 234-pound Gooden was unofficially timed at 4.47, but gives up five inches and more than 35 pounds to Clowney.

It’s a shame football fans have to wait another year and a half before the sophomore sensation can suit up for an NFL team. But while you’re waiting, take another look back at the hit of the year.
