Report: Leon Washington to Visit Patriots on Thursday, Could Help Return Game With Wes Welker Gone

The Patriots like go-go-gadget players, so it only makes sense that Leon Washington is on their radar.

The running back, who was cut by the Seahawks this week, has shown he can run, play receiver, catch passes out of the backfield and return both punts and kickoffs. That’s exactly what the Patriots need, especially with Wes Welker now gone.

Washington is set to visit the Patriots on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Washington has spent seven years in the NFL, playing with the Jets through 2009 and with the Seahawks since then. He has 2,213 rushing yards and 1,127 receiving yards over his career, plus 1,668 punt return yards and 6,315 kick return yards, including eight touchdowns in the kick return game (tying him with Joshua Cribbs for most in NFL history).
