Mike Carp is with the Red Sox, but his trade counterpart has yet to be named for the Mariners.

Now, it appears likely that Carp will end up having been traded for cash considerations, according to the Providence Journal’s Brian MacPherson. Additionally, Boston and Seattle are aiming to complete the trade by the end of March.

In the original deal, Carp was acquired by the Sox in exchange for either cash or a player to be named later after the Mariners designated the first baseman/outfielder for assignment. The 26-year-old Carp hit .213 last year with five home runs and 20 RBIs while battling injuries.
