By the time the 2013 NFL season rolls around, Mike Wallace is expected to eclipse Dwayne Bowe as the third-highest paid receiver in the NFL.
Dan Pompei of the National Football Post reports “Those who should know speculate his new deal will average more than $13 million per season.” Calvin Johnson is the highest paid wideout with an average salary of $18.8 million and Larry Fitzgerald is next with an average salary of $14.1 million.
After being drafted No. 84 overall in the 2009 draft, Wallace has accumulated 235 receptions for 4,042 yards and 32 touchdowns. His best season came in 2010 when he had 60 catches for 1,257 yards and 10 touchdowns, while averaging 21 yards per reception.
The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins are still the front runners for Wallace. Armando Salguero wrote “I’m deeply encouraged the Dolphins will land Wallace.”
Reports came out early on Saturday that the Patriots were interested in the speedy wide receiver. With his hefty price tag, New England may be more interested in driving that price up further than actually signing Wallace.
