With Sebastian Vollmer currently unsigned, the Patriots added some insurance on their offensive line Sunday afternoon.

ESPN.com’s Field Yates reports that the team has signed offensive tackle Will Svitek, who spent the entire 2012 season on injured reserve.

A defensive end/tight end at Stanford, Svitek was converted to tackle when Kansas City drafted him in the sixth round in 2005. He spent three seasons with the Chiefs before taking 2008 off from football and signing with the Falcons in 2009. The 31-year-old started a career-high 10 games for Atlanta in 2011, but he suffered an arm injury in training camp that sidelined him for all of last season.
