UMass LowellThree Hockey East schools will be among the field of 16 competing for college hockey’s greatest prize.

UMass Lowell, fresh off the first conference championship in school history, earned a No. 1 seed in the Manchester, N.H., regional of the NCAA tournament and will take on fourth-seeded Wisconsin this Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The River Hawks will be joined at Verizon Wireless Arena by host school New Hampshire, which snagged a No. 2 seed despite bowing out to Providence in the Hockey East quarterfinals. The Wildcats will take No. 3 seed Denver — a team UNH defeated 6-4 in their first meeting back in November.

Boston College rounds out the conference’s national tournament contestants as the No. 2 seed in the Providence regional and will take on two-time defending ECAC tournament champion Union in the first round.

Quinnipiac and Yale also received bids to the big dance — as a No. 1 and No. 4 seed, respectively — bringing the total of New England schools in the tournament to five.
