Friday night hosts a showdown in the Hockey East semifinals between archrivals Boston College and Boston University. The Eagles hold the edge in the rivalry this season, taking two of their three matchups. As BC and BU gear up for Round 4, adding another chapter to their storied history, a question needs to be answered: is the Green Line Rivalry the best rivalry in all of college hockey.
The Eagles and Terriers have combined for 10 national titles and more recently have brought four of the last five Frozen Four crowns back to Beantown. Headlined by legendary coaches Jack Parker and Jerry York, respectively, Boston University and Boston College have a strong case for the nation’s top feud.
Other historic college feuds to be considered are Wisconsin and Minnesota, with the winner bringing home the Border Battle Cup, while Michigan and Michigan State share one of the best intrastate rivalries. The Battle of Boston also has competition not only on a national stage, but on a regional one as well. The rivalry between Maine and New Hampshire has stood for decades and was at its peak when Maine topped UNH in the 1999 national final. Harvard has its annual Beanpot with the likes of BC and BU, but the Crimson consider Cornell as their ultimate foe.
