Alfonzo Dennard will serve some jail time after all, but not anytime soon.
Dennard, who was found guilty of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest back in February, was sentenced to two years of probation and 30 days in prison at a hearing in Lincoln, Neb., on Thursday, according to Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe. Fortunately for Dennard and the Patriots, he won’t have to begin his month-long sentence until March 1, 2014.

Dennard will get credit for three days that he already served, meaning he will only have to serve 27 more days once he enters the prison next March. The conviction stemmed from an altercation between Dennard and police officers outside of a Lincoln bar on April 21, 2012 — just days before the 2012 NFL draft. His arrest and role in the incident saw his draft stock plummet from a potential first-round pick all the way to the seventh round and No. 224 overall.
The sentence allows Dennard to play out the entire 2013 NFL season without interruption, meaning the Patriots will be at full strength in the secondary, at least going into training camp.
