Boston BombersThe Boston Bombers touted themselves as Boston’s only women’s semi-pro basketball team, a real part of the community. But now, because of that community association, the team is voluntarily changing its name in the wake of the Boston Marathon tragedy.

The Bombers held yearly tryouts, maintained a summer league and put on clinics for local youths. The team is affiliated with the Women’s Blue Chip League. However, after last week’s events, the team decided to make the name switch, already scrubbing its social media presence.

“We changed it due to the events Monday,” a spokesperson told Gawker. “Our fans [were] not happy with the name.”

The team has not released its new moniker yet, but says it will sometime this week.
