Derek Jeter Not Expected to Return Until After All-Star Break After CT Scan Reveals Crack in Foot

Derek Jeter was thought to be close to returning to the Yankees, but a setback is now putting the All-Star shortstop’s comeback on hold.

According to multiple reports, a CT scan revealed a new crack in Jeter’s foot, in the area of his previous injury. Jeter broke his left ankle during Game 1 of last year’s ALCS against the Tigers and was originally expected to miss only a few games of the 2013 season.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told reporters that the team isn’t expecting the shortstop back now until after the All-Star break. While Jeter will not need another surgery to help heal the injury, he will need time.

Eduardo Nunez has filled in during the 38-year-old shortstop’s absence, and he will likely continue to do so with Jeter’s return now pushed back.
