Shelling out over $3,000 for seats behind home plate at Chase Field’s Batters Box Suite may come with an all-inclusive deal, but it doesn’t guarantee that fans can wear whatever they please.
During the first inning of the Los Angeles-Arizona game, Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick asked–well, forced–fans in the suite to change out of their Dodgers gear or else change seats. Ushers soon came along with D-backs shirts and caps, which the fans changed into in order to keep their coveted spot behind the catcher.
Deadspin contacted the team for an explanation of what happened and the Diamondbacks responded:
Due to the high visibility of the home plate box, we ask opposing team’s fans when they purchase those seats to refrain from wearing that team’s colors. During last night’s game, when Ken Kendrick noticed the fans there, he offered them another suite if they preferred to remain in their Dodger gear. When they chose to stay, he bought them all D-backs gear and a round of drinks and requested that they abide by our policy and they obliged.Dodgers’ fans may have lost the battle, and the game, but they did at least go home with some new maroon and gold attire.
