Doc Rivers has called Boston his home since 2004, and while the coach has a strong connection with The Hub, he won’t be using the city’s recent tragedy to rile up his players against the Knicks on Friday night.
The C’s head coach was asked if he planned on using the Boston Marathon tragedy to help motivate his players prior to Game 3 of the playoffs, according to USA Today. Rivers didn’t even consider it.
“I won’t use that, I can tell you that. I don’t do that. I don’t use tragedy for sports,” Rivers said. “I just don’t think it’s right.
“We want to win for the city. It would be terrific,” he added. “But that is not anything I’m going to use in a press conference or with our players. We should want to win because we want to win. If we win, it would be great for the city. That’s as far as I’ll go with it.”
