Frozen Fenway to Return to Fenway Park in 2014, With Four Hockey East Games Taking Center Stage

Frozen FenwaySome of college hockey’s elite teams will once again play in America’s most famous ballpark this winter.

The Red Sox announced Thursday that Frozen Fenway will return in 2014 with a four-game slate to be played over two weeks featuring some of the best college hockey programs in America.

It will be a two-week series with four games taking place over the course of two weeks in January. The first games will take place Saturday, Jan. 14, with the other two occurring a week later on Jan. 21.

Here is the schedule.

Jan. 4

Merrimack College vs. Providence College

Notre Dame vs. Boston College

Jan. 11

UMass-Lowell vs. Northeastern

University of Maine vs. Boston University

It’s quite the welcome to Hockey East for Notre Dame, who will join the conference for the 2013-14 season.

“We are excited about the return of hockey to Fenway Park,” Hockey East commissioner Joe Bertagna said. “We are particularly pleased that with these two doubleheaders, all of our men’s programs will have had the opportunity to experience Frozen Fenway, including the University of Notre Dame, our newest member.”

The Mayor’s Community Skates will also return, with the Fenway ice being opened to the public for free skating on Dec. 29 and Jan. 1.
