Goat's Head Delivered to Wrigley Field Addressed to Cubs Team Owner

The Curse of the Billy Goat could be behind this one.

On Wednesday, an “intimidating package” was dropped off by an unidentified person at Gate K of the Chicago Cubs’ Wrigley Field Ballpark. The package was addressed to Cubs owner Ted Ricketts.

When team officials opened the package, they discovered a goat’s head. There was no note along with the head.

“We got a call at 2:30 p.m., responding to 1060 West Addison, Wrigley Field,” a Chicago Police Department spokesman told ESPNChicago.com. “We’re investigating it as an intimidating package.”

In Cubs team lore, the goat dates back to a supposed curse placed on the team by the late Billy Goat Tavern owner William Sianis during the 1945 World Series. The story is that Sianis placed a curse on the team because his goat was denied entry into the park, and and he declared that the Cubs “ain’t gonna win no more.” They lost the series, and haven’t been back since.

At least, that’s the excuse that Cubs fans have been using to explain why they haven’t won a National League pennant in 68 years, and haven’t won the World Series in 104 years.

The Cubs had a game on Wednesday that was postponed. Because of rain, not because of the goat.
