Former Celtics center Jason Collins‘ announcement Monday morning that he is gay has been met with overwhelming support, with everyone from his fellow NBA players to former President Bill Clinton to average fans taking to social media to give Collins words of encouragement.

Collins, who is currently a free agent, chronicled his decision to come out in a column that was published on SI.com and will appear as the cover story in this week’s issue of Sports Illustrated. About seven and a half hours after his column first appeared, Collins expressed his thanks over his personal Twitter account to all those that have supported him.
