John Lackey could be making a start for the Red Sox sooner rather than later.

The right-hander made his first start in a rehab stint for Double-A Portland on Monday, pitching for the first time since suffering a strained bicep in his first start on April 6. Lackey threw 67 pitches, giving up three hits, striking out five batters and walking two.

Red Sox manager John Farrell has said one start may be all that Lackey needs before he returns to the Red Sox rotation.
