London MarathonIn the wake of the Boston Marathon tragedy, an outpouring of support has come in from around America. However, that compassion extends beyond U.S. borders to the rest of the world, too.

Daily Mail is reporting that the London Marathon will incorporate a couple tributes to Boston during its festivities this weekend. Just prior to the race, there will be a 30-second moment of silence to honor those affected by the tragedy. Runners will also wear black ribbons in solidarity with Boston.

However, in light of Boston, security will be increased for the race. While London staged last year’s Olympic Games successfully without incident, some runners have indicated that they may not want their families waiting for them at the finish line.

“I have spoken to the Met Commissioner himself about this yesterday, and I have a huge amount of confidence in the police and security services of this country,” said United Kingdom deputy prime minister Nick Clegg. “They do an amazing job keeping us safe all the time. They are doing a double, triple, quadruple checking of all their arrangements for the Marathon, because of course what happened in Boston is just horrific.

“To see all these pictures of these happy families on a summer day at the finishing line, and of course these photos of this poor little eight-year-old, is just heartbreaking. So anxiety is the most natural response to that.”
