Patrice BergeronThe Bruins have been down this road before, and they’re going to tread carefully.

Patrice Bergeron has been working out and skating since his March 31 concussion, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be back on the ice in the next game or two, coach Claude Julien said Friday.

“Bergy will travel with us,” Julien said of the team’s trip to North Carolina this weekend. “He’s skating now, and he’s skating with us, and he’s better off to work out with us than to stay behind.”

But Julien wasn’t optimistic that Bergeron, who has had four concussions in his career, would be in game action in the near future.

“I don’t think so,” he said when asked if Bergeron would be available Saturday. “We’re certainly going to be cautious with him. He’s had a history of [concussions], and we’re not going to take a gamble with it.”

Bergeron was hurt March 31 against Ottawa with what was called a “mild” concussion.
