The Patriots were on the clock for all but a few moments before making up their minds on a first-round pick. Except they didn’t take a player.
The Patriots traded their first-round pick at No. 29 to the Minnesota Vikings in order to pick up more picks later in the draft,
With the deal, the Patriots pick up a second (52nd overall), third (83rd), fourth (102nd) and seventh-round pick (229th) from the Vikings in the deal.
Coming into the draft, the Patriots only had five selections, so the trade now gives them a total of eight picks total to work with. They now hold two second-round, two third-round, one fourth-round and three seventh-round picks.
The Patriots are in need of a slew of players but saw more value in the addition of multiple picks than taking a player at this point.
At No. 29, the Vikings took Tennessee wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson.
