Apparently Ben Roethlisberger isn’t so keen on the idea of going into 2013 with either Plaxico Burress or Jerricho Cotchery as his No. 2 wide receiver — sh0cking.
That’s why the Steelers quarterback is “lobbying hard” for the Steelers to match the Patriots’ one-year, $2.5 million offer sheet given to Emmanuel Sanders, according to Jason La Canfora. The Steelers have the money to match, but signing Sanders would limit their options in the remainder of free agency.
Pittsburgh has shown interest in running back Ahmad Bradshaw. If they match Sanders’ offer sheet, they likely would not wind up with the former Giant. The Patriots would have to give up a third-round pick if Pittsburgh chooses not to match.
The Steelers already lost star wideout Mike Wallace this offseason to the Dolphins in free agency. Antonio Brown, who led Steelers wide receivers in receptions, remains on the team.
Sanders had 44 catches for 626 yards and one touchdown in 2012. He was drafted No. 82 overall out of SMU in 2010. The Steelers would receive the No. 91 overall pick if they choose not to match.
