There’s a surprising name who has reportedly surfaced on the NHL trade market, and teams looking for help on the blue line are probably pretty interested.

TSN’s Darren Dreger reported Monday via Twitter that Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jamie McBain is starting to come up in trade discussions. Nothing appears imminent at this point, but according to Dreger, the Canes are open to trade offers.

McBain could be a strong option for teams looking to add a defenseman. He’s only 25 years old, and he still has another season left on his contract following this season. He would come with a salary cap hit of $1.8 million per year, according to CapGeek.com.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound McBain is averaging a little more than 19 minutes of ice time per game this season. That includes 1:37 of power-play ice time per game as well. McBain has 1-5-6 totals and is a plus-9 in 26 games for Carolina this season.
