Hopefully Elvis Andrus enjoys the Dallas-Fort Worth area, because he’ll be playing there for a very long time.
The shortstop and the Texas Rangers agreed on an eight-year, $120 million contract extension, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. The deal kicks in after his current contract that runs through 2014. In total, Andrus will be locked up for 10 years and $131 million. He’ll be a Ranger until 2022.
The 24-year-old two-time All Star hit .286 last year with three home runs, 62 RBIs and 21 stolen bases. He’s a career .275 hitter with a .695 OPS.
The extension will move Rangers top prospect Jurickson Profar to second base after spending most of his minor league career at shortstop. Profar had a cup of coffee with Texas last season in which he hit .176 with one home run in 17 at bats. Profar will begin the season in Triple-A.
