Minnesota Twins vs. Boston Red SoxJose Iglesias‘ hot start was not enough to keep him in the majors.

The Red Sox sent Iglesias down to Pawtucket on Wednesday and activated Stephen Drew from the seven-day disabled list, according to Maureen Mullen of CSNNE.com. This had been the Red Sox’ plan all along once Drew got enough at bats in his stint at Portland after he had recovered from the concussion he suffered during spring training.

Drew had two hits in 13 at bats in in Double-A. He hit one home run, walked twice and drove in three runs.

Iglesias will be able to get everyday at bats with the PawSox. He had been batting .450 with a 1.026 OPS in Boston with stellar fielding. Pedro Ciriaco will remain the Red Sox’ backup shortstop.
