The Cavaliers are hoping to get their prized target the second time around.
No, that’s not referring to LeBron James, although speculation for that isn’t going to end anytime soon. This time, Cleveland is looking to replace recently fired head coach Byron Scott with the Zen Master himself.
The Cavs “have reached out” to Phil Jackson, ESPN reports. The team wants to see how interested Jackson is in coaching again after recent reports that Jackson would like to return to the game, albeit most likely in a management role, according to ESPN.
Cavs owner Dan Gilbert and Jackson talked about Jackson taking the Cleveland job in 2005, when the Cavs ended up hiring Mike Brown instead. Gilbert was reportedly talking with Brown again this weekend as well.
Jackson is also “considering other coaching options,” according to ESPN, with the Nets and the Kings most likely to draw his interest.
Jackson has said he does not plan to coach again, but he said something similar before returning to the Lakers.
