Ryan Dempster Had ‘Bugs Bunny Splitty,’ ‘Nintendo Stuff’ Going Against Astros, Says Catcher David Ross

Ryan Dempster finally picked up his first win as a member of the Red Sox on Friday and even his catcher was impressed.

David Ross, who launched two home runs and played a big role in Boston’s 7-3 victory, lauded Dempster’s performance after the game. Ross hardly seemed surprised by Dempster’s outing, as he’s grown accustomed to seeing the right-hander provide quality starts, but one pitch in particular stood out.

“Ryan did a great job. He always does. He knows how to pitch. [He] establishes his fastball in and out. [He’s] a typical veteran pitcher,” Ross said. “Great slider early on in the game to keep their hitters off balance. He had like a Bugs Bunny splitty tonight. That thing was working good. It was like some Nintendo stuff out there. He did a good job. He did a really good job.”

A Bugs Bunny splitty, huh? That’s an interesting way to put it, but what exactly does it mean?

“It’s like a video game; really good one,” Ross clarified. “It’s better than the Yosemite Sam.”

Gotcha. We’ll see what kind of Warner Bros. stuff Felix Doubront brings to the table on Saturday.
