Shawn Thornton, Zdeno Chara Among Bruins Participating in Sixth Annual ‘Cuts For a Cause’ (Photos)

PailleThe Boston Bruins continue to roll on the ice, but off it they’re doing even bigger things.

On Monday, a number of Bruins players, including Zdeno CharaNathan HortonMilan LucicDougie Hamilton and Shawn Thornton, had their heads shaved as part of the “Cuts For a Cause” benefit. Thornton’s foundation, The Shawn Thornton Foundation, helped organize the event

Fans had the chance to bid on the rights to cut each player’s hair through an online auction starting March 25 and ending on March 29. The highest bidder received admission to the VIP session, where they were able to meet and greet the players. All proceeds from the event went to benefit The Shawn Thornton Foundation, Boston Bruins Foundation and Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center.

A record-high 18 players participated in this year’s event, which raised $76,000 for cancer research.
