Trust Stephen Colbert to say what everyone knows.

Colbert opened his Tuesday night show with a tribute to Boston and its citizens after the region was rocked by the horrific events at the Boston Marathon on Monday.

“Whoever did this did not know [expletive] about the people of Boston,” Colbert said. “There’s nothing these [people] can do to shake them.”

Colbert went through the history of the Pilgrims, the American Revolution, the Red Sox’ 86-year drought and the Big Dig to explain just how off the “cowards” were to take on the city. He saved his best comments for the mettle of the people running the Boston Marathon.

“These people tried to make life bad for the people of Boston,” he said, “but all they can ever do is show just how good those people are.”
