The Lightning Played in the Norris Division During Their Expansion 1992-93 Season

The Tampa Bay Lightning will be moving into a new division next year as the NHL realigns its teams, but that’s nothing new for the relatively young franchise.

Despite only existing for 20 years, the Lightning will be moving into their fourth division for the 2013-14 season, a long way from their humble beginnings in the Norris Division. Yes, that’s where the Tampa Bay franchise played its inaugural season back in 1992-93, as a member of the Campbell Conference.

Following that season, the NHL swapped the names of the conferences and juggled some teams around, placing the Lightning in the Atlantic Division. They later moved to the Southeast, where they will reside for just one more game.
