Tim TebowNew insight seems to surface every day regarding the Mark SanchezTim TebowGreg McElroyDavid Garrard debacle of a quarterback situation in East Rutherford, and one former signal caller says it’s time to stop the charade.

“If there’s going to be competition at the position, it’s not going to come from Tim Tebow,” former Pro Bowler Jeff Garcia told USA Today on Thursday. “Having Tebow there [last season] just became more of a distraction, more of a circus show. Obviously, it’s their decision. But from an outsider looking in, having Tebow there doesn’t bring anything positive. It just brings distraction.”

Tebow did nothing to improve the Jets’ offense last season, which struggled mightily under Sanchez’s control. The team has reportedly been trying to shop Heisman Trophy winner since the day the season ended, but it was actually Sanchez’s name that popped up in the latest trade rumor.

Though New York’s depth chart under center is certainly in need of work, Garcia’s opinion may be a bit biased. He’s spent the last few weeks training Sanchez on the intricacies of the West Coast offense run by new offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, whom Garcia played under in San Francisco and Philadelphia.
