TV Anchor Shows Lack of Hockey Smarts, Says Ducks Traded for Matthew Lombardi From Phoenix Suns (Video)

Matthew Lombardi is really good on the boards, so he should be able to create space and provide scoring chances from the center position.

That’s why the Anaheim Ducks traded for him from the Phoenix Suns.

Oh, that’s not right. Let’s try again: Matthew Lombardi can really put it in the net–.

Nope, that’s not the problem. It’s the other — yep, that part. The one where you had an NHL team trading with an NBA team. Yeah, that’s not going to work.

With the Stanley Cups playoffs fast approaching, local TV anchors are again getting the chance to show how little they know about hockey. This time the culprit is Fox 11, whose report about the Lombardi trade was right on track — except for the part where the anchor said, without pause, that Lombardi had been traded from the Phoenix Suns.

These gaffes are usually accompanied by some sputtering or a correction, but the confidence in this one may have convinced all but the most aware sports fans.
