One can only hope John Hirshbeck was wearing a cup.
Wednesday night’s Angels-Rangers game turned out to be a snoozer, with Texas jumping out to a big early lead on Angels rookie Michael Roth and never looking back. But the game also featured one of the worst instances in a long line of taking pitches and foul tips off body parts.
With Angels reliever Nick Maronde pitching to veteran catcher A.J. Pierzynski, Maronde threw an inside fastball far off the plate. Pierzynski checked his swing, somehow barely getting a piece of it, but that was enough of a redirection to elude the glove of catcher Chris Iannetta.
Since we now know there was no serious injury, we can laugh at Hirschbeck’s misfortune with the glee of Homer Simpson. So, enjoy a man getting hit by a baseball in the groin and immediately toppling over in the video below.
