ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Yankees right fielder Curtis Granderson was hit on the left hand by a pitch, which X-rays showed a broken knuckle on his pinkie finger.
Granderson was hit by Cesar Ramos‘ pitch in the fifth inning of Friday night’s game against Tampa Bay and at first stayed in the game. He later scored, but was replaced defensively by Ichiro Suzuki in the bottom of the inning.
It was announced during the eighth inning that X-rays taken at the ballpark found the break.
Granderson missed the first 38 games this season with a broken right forearm, the result of a hit by pitch in his first at-bat at spring training.
Yankees starting pitcher David Phelps left in the eighth when it appeared he was hit in the right arm by a drive up the middle by Ben Zobrist. He walked off the field and was replaced by Boone Logan.
