Warriors big man David Lee was thought to be lost for the season when he tore his hip flexor in Game 1 of Golden State’s first-round series against Denver. As it turns out, that rehab lasted all of 12 days.
Lee was back on the court in Oakland for Game 6 on Thursday as the Warriors attempted to complete the biggest upset of the NBA playoff so far by closing out the No. 3 Nuggets at home.
Golden State was left for dead by many after Lee went on the shelf during a Game 1 loss, but Stephen Curry has kept the Warriors afloat by shooting the lights out, averaging nearly a double-double (24.8 points, 9.6 assists per game) in the series.
It remains to be seen how effective Lee will be in his return, but his miraculous recovery already has the Twitter-sphere buzzing with comparisons to Bulls guard Derrick Rose. Rose, who tore his ACL during last year’s playoffs, has yet to play a minute this season for Chicago despite being medically cleared in March.
The Warriors lead the best-of-seven series 3-2. This year marks just their second postseason appearance since 1994-95.
