Mike CarpTwo of the hottest hitters on the Red Sox weren’t regulars days ago, but injuries that forced Will Middlebrooks and Shane Victorino to the 15-day disabled list have thrust Jose Iglesias and Mike Carp into starting roles.

Iglesias is making his second career start at third base and batting in the No. 9 hole, while Carp is starting in left field and batting seventh. Iglesias is 4-for-7 since being recalled from Pawtucket. He went 3-for-4 with two runs in Saturday’s win over Cleveland. The stellar fielder is batting .481 on the season with a 1.093 OPS.

Carp has delivered key hits in consecutive games. On Friday, he hit a three-run home run that got the scoring started for Boston. His RBI double on Sunday tied the game before Dustin Pedroia knocked him in for the go-ahead run.
