LeGarrette Blount hasn’t hurdled any opponents, made any open-field jukes or barreled through the goal line yet, but his first move in a Patriots uniform is fitting for New England’s team-first approach.
Blount took a pay cut upon being traded to the Patriots, according to ESPN.com. The former Buccaneer was set to earn $1.2 million in 2013, but his salary was cut $630,000. If Blount is placed on injured reserve, it gets slashed even further to $358,000.
The Patriots traded Jeff Demps and a seventh-round pick for Blount, who will likely be competing for a roster spot with running backs Brandon Bolden, Quentin Hines and Leon Washington. Blount’s best season as a pro came in his rookie year, 2010, when he rushed for 1,007 yards and six touchdowns with Tampa Bay. With the inclusion of rookie Doug Martin in 2012, his play time decreased as he rushed for just 151 yards and two touchdowns on 41 carries.
